GETTIN' WILD WITH WILD FISH
of seattle, washington

Upon first stepping into Wild Fish, one can't help but notice the restaurant’s flavorful aesthetics. With complementary-colored walls in green, red, and orange tones, and minor adornments from more traditional Japanese decorations to dragonfly hanging lights from IKEA.
Wild Fish, located in the heart of Belltown, is Sushi Monsters’ first ever featured restaurant, with a brief look into the life of and passion behind the restaurant’s sushi chef, James Han. We will focus primarily on the restaurant’s large array of creative maki zushi (sushi rolls).
One can easily tell from looking at the décor of Wild Fish that someone in charge is artistically-inclined. That someone would be Chef Han. Originally a graphic designer, Han approached sushi-making in a way that combined his two loves: food and art.
But despite the charming ambiance of Wild Fish, plating and aesthetics are not everything for the restaurant. Invention is key. The restaurant offers everything from your generic California Roll to your less common Rainbow Roll, with prices for an entire roll (approximately eight well-sized pieces) ranging from five to nine dollars – a relative bargain compared to other restaurants in Belltown. But despite outshining the local competition in price and quality of regular rolls, Wild Fish’s real strength lies in their fun and inventive original rolls. All of their Wild Fish Rolls are creations of Chef Han, and include things like the Popeye Roll (spinach over avocado and cucumber), the Hawaiian Roll (coconut shrimp, crab, and tobiko), and the Cool Spring Roll (sweet shrimp over spicy crab, cucumber, and tobiko).
Wild Fish’s sushi rolls are also commonly accompanied by Chef Han’s five homemade sauces, which range from a spicy one to a ranch-like one, with many flavors in-between.
For those who are looking for fresh fish accompanied by cheap prices, head to Wild Fish. It is one place that Sushi Monsters whole-heartedly endorses. Make sure you drop by during the restaurant’s happy hour, which runs from 3:00pm to 6:00pm daily, or check out Chef Han’s other restaurant, HaRoo, in Shoreline.
