From the outside, Mikado looks scary and intimidating. On the inside, it's actually rather nicely decorated with well-tended fish tanks and Japanese style decor. It's almost shocking that a restaurant that looks so unattractive on the outside can be damn near beautiful on the inside. Perhaps it is because the previous owners of the restaurant, a rather well-known couple in the Seattle area, were more conscious of these things.

Now, onto the food! Mikado offers teppanyaki and sushi, and neither are at all bad. The teppanyaki is a fun experience with friends, and even gives you the opportunity to meet new friends at the dinner table, as we did. For about $16-$20 a dish, you'll have no problem being full from the teppanyaki.

The sushi is similarly good, although the sushi chef somehow managed to forget our order... twice. The first time we went to remind him, he was evidently very stressed out by the fact that co-workers had decided to ditch out on him (the day we went being Valentine's Day), leaving him there to fend for himself. The second time he forgot, one of our newfound friends at the dinner table went to ask for us. Perhaps he was more intimidating or better with words than us, because finally, the sushi came out quite quickly.

This is just one tiny testament as to the service of Mikado. The restaurant has potential, but somehow, they just don't place very much importance on their service. It is absolutely HORRENDOUS. We arrived there at 7:15, and did not begin receiving food until nearly 7:50. Tables of previous customers were slowly cleared away over a course of half an hour or so. Although there was about five staff members present, they seemed absolutely overwhelmed by the fact that there were 12 customers in their restaurant. They said that it was a busy night for them. One can only imagine what kind of a ghost town Mikado must be during the typical evening.

I sincerely hope that Mikado works on the image of their restaurant and on their poor service. It is disappointing to see what this restaurant could possibly be, as its interior decoration clearly received a lot of love, and Seattle is simply lacking in teppanyaki options.

Here's to someday.

Dinner

I went by Mikados last week, it was pretty good overall. The lunch reviews sound pretty scary, but I decided to give dinner a try. I advise people with large parties (6+ people) make reservations, they've been having a lot of random rush hours during dinner.

I hit off the sushi bar first off, the sushi was great. I had Shrimp Tempura, a Spider Roll, Washington Roll, and some Nigiri *Salmon ROCKS my World~* As for the service I can tell it was lacking, but my young sushi chef took over and I was well taken cared of. At the end of the meal I had made a new friend; I believe his name was Michael Lam?

Well my advice for you sushi advocates out there is to give it a shot, and say hi to Michael for me. He'll take care of you ;)

I went for the all you can eat sushi. The sushi was pretty good. The service was horrible. They bring you soup, which is nice with your meal. The bad part was the wa they looked at you, it made me scared to eat. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. They did not have a ver good selection, def not worth the price, was still hungry, because I left when they looked at me like a pig when I went back to get a second plate, wanted another, but couldn't deal with the looks. If you are not to hungry, and don't mind spending $13 then it's ok, because the sushi wasn't bad....or great.

Atmosphere lacking, low celing, impersonal, cheap feeling. Service non existant. Quality average, consistant. Food value good, experience value low. If you want reasonable food, and can ignore the rest, enjoy.
