BASIC SUSHI TIPS

KEEP THESE IN MIND WHEN YOU'RE EATING SUSHI!
  • A good way to save money is to purchase combination plates. These plates generally have 9-11 pieces per plate, which should be a filling amount for the average eater. Combination plates are cheaper than individual pieces because they are made according to what the chef has at hand and all at once, rather than piece by piece at random times.
  • Ginger, soy sauce, wasabi, and vinegar are used in conjunction with raw fish because of their anti-bacterial properties. Take care to try and eat some of these anti-bacterial sushi complements to lower the risk of potential food poisoning.
  • Wasabi causes saliva secretion and stimulates your appetite.
  • Although drinks really vary by taste, many sushi chefs would agree that sushi tastes most flavorful when consumed with sake. Green tea is also a good solution, as it clears the palette and removes aftertaste prior to the next bite.
  • Most sushi restaurants don't have menus up, so read up on the terms, check out the photos, and know what you want to order. If you don't have a clue but are willing to take a risk, ask the chef what he recommends. He will most likely give you the freshest topping of the day.
